Dates for the diary

March 31st 2023 – Trans Day of Visibility

Visibility is crucial for transgender people, as without interacting with others who think, feel and experience in a similar way it is easy to feel isolated and lost. Promoting accurate and nuanced representations of transgender, non-binary and intersex experiences is crucial for supporting transgender people and providing avenues for self-identification and expression.

LGBT Foundation

The LGBT Foundation, for example, has a number of resources and programmes by and for transgender people and their allies. Sharing these resources, and ensuring that transgender issues are understood at our practice enables us to play our part in redressing existing imbalances experienced by trans people in healthcare.

Lesbian Visibility Week

Lesbian Visibility Week aims to show solidarity with all LGBT+ women and non-binary people in the community, as well as to celebrate lesbians.

The week aims to be a voice for unity and lift up all women, especially those who come from marginalised communities.

The LGBT Foundation has recently released a brand new video which offers a unique insight into the experiences of queer womanhood and highlights the diversity of being a woman. It encourages us to view womanhood through a queerer lens, opening up new perspectives and possibilities. To unite women and celebrate our differences while basking in the queer hope and joy this film radiates!

Read about and download the brand new resource ‘What Is A Woman?’ Remember there are as many ways of being a woman as there are women in the world, so let’s celebrate each and every one:

Manchester Pride

Get ready to make history and join the most vibrant and impactful parade in the city! The Manchester Pride Parade, part of the renowned Manchester Pride Festival, will take place on Saturday, 26th August, and this year’s theme is “Queerly Beloved.” It’s a celebration of love, community, self-expression, and the transformative power of dance.

It’s worth remembering that, on 20th February 1988, a huge anti-Section 28 protest was held in Manchester. Over 20,000 people took to the streets to let their disquiet be heard. At the time, it was one of the largest LGBTQ+ demonstrations ever to take place in the UK! This and many other protests around the globe paved the way for the Pride parades we see around the world today.
